Dynamic analysis of conveyors prevents failure

The forces inside a long overland conveyor are not static. If these forces are not modelled and controlled, the result is belt damage, mechanical failure, or a runaway system. Dynamic analysis is the mathematical modelling of these forces across the full conveyor systema and it’s one of the most specialised disciplines in conveyor engineering.

ROXON conducts dynamic analysis on overland conveyor systems using proprietary mathematical models refined over four decades with data and insights from real-life conveyors. Dynamic modelling is part of our projects from the outset.

Our engineering consulting service is available independently of equipment supply. You can engage ROXON to evaluate a proposed layout, model a replacement, or optimise an existing system.

For modernisation and upgrade projects, ROXON uses 3D scanning of existing installations to identify opportunities to improve access, upgrade tensioning systems, or extend operational life. This approach has extended the working life of operating conveyors by years, at a fraction of the cost of new installation

Simulated transfer chutes eliminate stoppages

The transfer chute is the most common source of unplanned overland conveyor stoppages. The complexity of chute design — accounting for material characteristics, flow rates, belt speed, impact angles, impact speed and wear lining — is such that it is often used as the benchmark for engineering capability.

We use simulation software that models how material behaves as it moves through the chute geometry. Before any steel is cut, we identify wear hotspots, blockage risks, maintenance hatches, and asymmetric loading conditions, and design them out.

Delivery is not the end of the relationship. Roxon’s service and maintenance team participates in the design process from day one. This means equipment is designed to be maintained with proper access, standardised components, and service requirements built in before the first drawing is issued

ROXON has been engineering overland conveyor systems since the 1960s. The references span Arctic open-pit mines, underground operations, desert environments, and systems crossing high altitude gaps.

  • One system installed in 1988 producer is still in operation today — with approximately two-thirds of its original belt in service after more than 35 years.
  • A 5.5-kilometre system descending 717 metres —operates in one of the world’s most demanding environments.
  • ROXON has engineered the world’s largest shiftable overland conveyor, at 15 kilometres, and replaced a 276-metre conveyor system within a seven-day operational window.
