From 60 to over 115 Days: ROXDUR Extends Liner Life and Cuts Maintenance Costs in a Peruvian Mine

The installation of ROXDUR wear plates to a transfer tower was successfully completed for a major mining company operating in Southern Peru. The installation of 50mm-thick liners aimed to extend the machinery’s maintenance interval from 2–3 weeks to three months. This development reduces the customer’s operational costs significantly
From 9.6 to More Than 17 Million Tons Processed Before First Replacement
Major copper mining company in Peru is operating in the Apurimac Region at high altitude ranging between 3,800 and 4,000 meters above sea level. So both the operating and maintenance conditions of machinery working there require endurance.
“In this case, the customer aimed to reduce production interruptions caused by maintenance breaks. With the ROXDUR solution, the service life of the wear plates will significantly increase. With the previous product, approximately 9.6 million tons of material were processed. The average lifespan of the liner before using ROXDUR wear plates was 60 days. The ROXDUR liners were installed on February 22, 2025, and were finally removed on June 16, after running continuously for 115 days and handling over 17.53 Mtons,” Jean Carlo Freundt, General Manager of Spin Peru. Spin Peru as a local partner of ROXON has taken care of customer management, installation and maintenance of the solution.
“It’s important to note that the removal was carried out in order to close the test and perform a full wear assessment. However, it was observed that the liners were still in good condition and still have remaining service life. We estimate that by the end of the liners’ lifespan, approximately 20 million tons will have been processed. Investing in high-quality and durable wear plates makes sense, as it delivers significant cost savings by reducing maintenance costs considerably,” Jean Carlo Freundt explains.
Following the success of this trial, Roxdur skirting liners are now being installed in the chute conveyors at the same site.
Increasing Productivity and Safety in Mining Operations

ROXDUR is a patented, unique wear material with a hardness of up to 2000HV. It is extremely impact- and abrasion-resistant, metallurgically combining cemented carbide granules with a nodular iron matrix. This combination makes it an ideal solution for the most demanding applications and harshest mining conditions.
The installation of ROXDUR wear plates allows the client to achieve higher productivity due to reduced maintenance needs and downtime, as well as improved safety by minimizing personnel interventions on the equipment. The thickness of the cemented carbide coating can be adjusted to ensure that the product’s service life aligns perfectly with the customer’s scheduled maintenance intervals.
ROXON products are fully made from recycled iron and carbides. Material efficiency, reduced wear material consumption, and the use of renewable energy make ROXDUR the most sustainable solution. Only 72 kg of CO2 is produced per ton of ROXDUR manufactured.
“It is great to see our ROXDUR product in action at another demanding site in Peru! Heavy-duty environments push equipment to its limits, making durability and reliability critical for mine operations. ROXDUR’s unique material design extends equipment lifetime and enhances safety,” says ROXON’s CEO, Martin Evers.
